Preservation center of the national level

The storage facility of Sino Cell’s stem cell products is located at the Bioresource Collection and Research Center (BCRC) of the Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI). The technology division of Sino Cell occupies about 330 square meters of space and is divided into 4 sections: (1) cord blood preservation center, (2) stem cell research and development center, (3) medical laboratory, and (4) cryogenic preservation room.

The BCRC has almost 30 years of operational experience in bioresource repository, and is ranked first in Asia for its inventory of biological resources, and within the top ten in the world. It is also the cell preservation institution in Taiwan recognized for its most abundant experience, well-equipped facilities, and highest quality.

The BRCR of FIRDI is not only the cell bank location of the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), but also the only storage facility for patented cells and microbes designated by the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. It is the only institution entrusted by the nation for long-term cell line preservation, and is ISO 9001 certified. Unlike other self-established cell banks in the private sectors, the cord blood and stem cell preservation centers of Sino Cell have not only inherited over 30 years of operational experience and technology from BRCR, but is also the only private preservation institution that employs national level cell storage facilities and professional management system.

The stem cell preservation center of Sino Cell is a scientific laboratory established in compliance with the Current Good Tissue Practice (cGTP) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The laboratory is also nationally certified with TAF accreditation and ISO 9001 qualified internationally.

Globally ubiquitous SEPAX Cord Blood Processing System

Sino Cell is the first in Taiwan to introduce the SEPAX Cord Blood Processing System’s automated processing technology, developed by the Biosafe SA from Switzerland’s Lac de Geneve area. SEPAX is an aseptic, closed instrument that automatically separates cells. With patented fully automated processing technology, SEPAX obtains stem cells from cord blood samples that comply with the cGTP regulations. The stem cells in the blood were collected through centrifugation, and the UCB stem cells are stored in Pall’s blood packs (the first cord blood pack certified by U.S. FDA). The collected cells can then be used in HSCT for the restoration of hematopoiesis system and the immune system, or applications in regenerative medicine.

SEPAX Cord Blood Processing System
  • Used by majority of the members of NETCORD, world’s largest public association for cord blood.
  • Widely used in the European regions; over 100,000 cord blood units (CBU) have employed this new technology, and there have been already several hundred cases of stem cell transplantations that used this technology.
  • ViaCell (a branch of Perkin-Elmer), the largest and most respected cord blood biotechnology company in the United States, started using this automated cord blood processing technology at its ViaCord cord blood-processing laboratory in 2008.

LABS-80K liquid nitrogen storage tank

Sino Cell uses the LABS-80K liquid nitrogen storage tank from Taylor-Wharton of the U.S., and preserves the isolated stem cells in an vapor-phase liquid nitrogen tank at -196℃. The tank has an operating platform for safe and quick operation, preventing instant warming effects. Cryogenic tubes are preserved in the vapor-phase LN2 storage tanks to prevent possible viral cross-contamination of the immersion style storage.
